Saying that the US still requires citizens of five EU member nations to obtain an entry visa, the European Union's Parliament approved a measure on Thursday calling for the EU Commission to urge full visa reciprocity - or reinstate visa requirements for Americans who want to visit Europe. The parliament wants the measure in place "within two months", and the commission is set to report on its progress by the end of June.
The Parliament, by a show of hands, urged the Commission to adopt restrictive measures against US citizens "within two months". "Making it more hard for U.S. citizens to travel to Europe would certainly deprive the European travel and tourism sector of essential revenue, and put thousands of European jobs at stake in one of the few sectors which experiences a strong growth in employment".
