The world's oldest person, Emma Morano, has died in Italy at the age of 117, reports say. "We will always remember the strength (she possessed) for moving forward, her combative attitude against adversity", said Verbania Mayor Silvia Marchionini.
Bava said he had last paid his nearly-daily call on Morano on Friday.
She also adhered to a unique diet of two raw eggs and one cooked egg per day and had good genes: The eldest of eight children, Morano had a sister live to 102 and another to almost 100.

Morano was the oldest of eight children.

Morano had been living in a tidy, one-room apartment, where she was kept company by her caregiver and two elderly nieces.
Ms Emma Martina Luigia Morano of Vercelli, Italy, was born on 29 November 1899.
Brown, who is 117 years and 36 days old, took over from Italian Emma Morano who passed away today.

Ms Morano went on to support herself by working in a factory making jute bags, then at a hotel, working far beyond the usual retirement age.
In addition to enjoying the single life, Morano didn't fuss with keeping a complicated diet to lengthen her time on earth. She was considered a good dancer with a attractive singing voice in her youth.
"For breakfast I eat biscuits with milk or water", she said.
