TLC Could Soon Force Uber to Provide Tipping Option

While the TLC has been careful not to name specific companies, the guild clearly designed its rule with Uber in mind.

The commission opted to push for the change in response to a petition by the Independent Drivers Guild, a union-supported organization that advocates for Uber drivers in NY.

The group began its campaign after Uber "refused to budge" on the issue, which is one of the major points of contention for its drivers, said Conigliaro.

The company then "clarified" its stance on tipping to say that it doesn't mind tipping, but that it feels drivers somehow prefer knowing exactly what they're getting financially and that riders view tipping as a "hassle" (which rings a bit hollow considering how easy and unintrusive the tipping system Lyft uses is). "The exploitation of ride-hail drivers must end and this is an important first step". The taxi commission plans to propose its rules on tipping by July, a spokeswoman told Quartz.

BC NDP pledges $400 annual renters rebate
He says it would cost $4-billion per year if brought in, and again raising the spectre of B.C. losing its AAA credit rating. A large part of cutting that waste, according to Horgan, is getting rid of what he calls Christy Clark's "LNG Fantasy Fund".

That petition received more than 11,000 signatures; the Independent Driver's Guild estimated that including a tipping button would lead to a total of $300 million addition income per year for drivers. "They have to work much harder and longer hours to earn the same amount of money they did when Uber came on the scene".

When Uber launched, one of its purported innovations was that there is "no need to tip", but after the company dropped fares and restructured the way drivers are paid, a number of drivers began to cry foul - especially since Lyft and Juno, another competitor, allow in-app tipping.

"[We] look forward to reviewing it", Uber said, adding that it is "always striving to offer the best earning opportunity for drivers and we are constantly working to improve the driver experience". The HC was hearing petitions by radio taxi operators against Ola and Uber being allowed to operate without valid licences. Low pay was a common theme among drivers, as was Uber's manipulation of fare prices. The Delhi High Court, after hearing Uber's plea, passed an interim order restraining anyone, including two taxi drivers' unions, from "hampering" and interfering with the running of app-based cabs of Uber India.

More importantly, Uber also agreed to a number of concessions, including new specific policies created to give drivers greater transparency about what keeps them in good standing and what could boot them off the platform. While digital tipping has yet to go mainstream outside of cafes and taxis, American consumers are more likely to touch-type a tip if the staff member is standing (or sitting) expectantly nearby.

Ozil: Individuals not important now, we have to focus on club
"At the moment, all that is important is Arsenal and not me or any other player, it is just the club". Arsenal star Mesut Ozil says it would be wrong to think about his future before the end of the season.

And the nearer you are to the tippee, whether it's a barista or an Uber driver, the more like you are to tip.

In most cities, Uber is a cashless experience.

"As a rider, you are not obligated to offer your driver a gratuity in cash", the website states.

If you decide you would like to tip, your driver is welcome to accept.
