Nadal dominates to win historic 10th French Open title

Nadal demolished Stanislas Wawrinka 6-2, 6-3, 6-1 in Sunday's final at Roland Garros to become the first man to win the same Slam on 10 occasions.

His thumping 6-2 6-3 6-1 victory over Stan Wawrinka meant he won the title without dropping a set during the whole tournament for the third time in his career having previously repeated the feat in 2008 and 2010.

"Thank you and see you next time."Third seed Wawrinka, the 2015 champion who had won all his three previous grand slam finals, was gracious in defeat."I would like to congratulate Rafa".

Wawrinka, a three time Grand Slam victor, who was victorious at Roland Garros in 2015, was bullied across the court from nearly the first point, never being allowed to settle into any kind of rhythm by the greatest clay court player of all time.

Kane rescues draw for England against Scotland in qualifying
And they keep coming back again. "It still leaves us top and in a good position because qualifying is all that matters". As always, Twitter had something to say about Hart's unusual choice of head-wear and well, we weren't disappointed.

The Spaniard, now a 15-time Grand Slam victor, eased to victory in the French capital to the delight of those in attendance.

After the heartbreak of losing the Australian Open final to Roger Federer earlier in the year, emotion overcame Nadal after the match, but he was ruthless for its entirety.

Nadal, who has been plagued by injuries and a loss of form in recent years, is the first man to win a single Slam on 10 occasions in the Open era. It was his 18th crown.

It marked a stirring return to the top for Nadal in his favourite event and on his favorite surface: Over his career, he is now 79-2 at the French Open and 102-2 in all best-of-five-set matches on clay.

"There is no one in the world who can make you feel more inadequate than Rafa Nadal on this court", said NBC's Mary Carillo, describing Nadal's dominance. "I had tough times past year so it's great to have big success again". I try to play my best at all events.

Wawrinka, the oldest French Open finalist since 1973, shouldn't exactly have been a walkover either. To put that in perspective, Wawrinka, comfortably the second-best player this year at the French Open, lost 102 games over the course of seven matches.

"There is nothing to say about today, you were too good", Wawrinka said.

"There is many things I can talk about the game, about what I did, about what he was doing, that I should have done or tried differently, but in the end of the day, I think it's quite clear the score", Wawrinka said.

"It's a while since I didn't play a very good Wimbledon". I played against the biggest clay-court player ever.
