Bill Cosby faces retrial on sexual assault charges

Bill Cosby leaves the Montgomery County Courthouse during his sexual assault trial, Friday, June 16, 2017, in Norristown, Pa.

Prosecutors have vowed to retry the 79-year-old, who is known for his long-running sitcom The Cosby Show.

"I personally can not thank Andrea Constand enough", she said. "We are confident that these proceedings have given a voice to the many victims who felt powerless and silenced".

"Juries are stuck when a prosecutor seeks to put someone in prison for things that are simply not presented in the courtroom", said Angela Agrusa, a member of Cosby's defense team.

Legal experts had always warned that the "he said, she said" nature of the case was always going to be hard to prove in court, not least because it happened so long ago and due to a lack of physical evidence.

Constand did not speak to reporters, but her attorney, Dolores Troiani, said Constand was a "very spiritual person who believes everything happens for a reason".

They were supposed to be separated by a metal gate in the vehicle, but Rowe and Dubose were able to get inside the cab. Later the prisoners stole a white Ford F-250 from a locked quarry at approximately 11 p.m.

The 12 Pennsylvanians, unlike the rest of the country, sifted through evidence and testimony as they considered over 52 hours whether Cosby drugged and assaulted then-Temple University employee Andrea Constand in his home outside Philadelphia in 2004.

Constand did not appear at the news conference.

Cosby himself didn't comment, remaining stoic as the judge declared a mistrial, but Wyatt declared the star's "power is back".

This had been the first criminal prosecution to be brought against Cosby, who will celebrate his 80th birthday next month with his legacy and reputation in shreds. "Heinously and exploitatively ambitious", she wrote. She accuses Cosby and his team of lawyers and representatives of defaming her and calling her a liar for speaking out about the accusations.

Cosby told investigators in Pennsylvania that he gave Constand Benadryl and that the encounter was consensual.

District Attorney Kevin Steele said immediately after the mistrial that he would retry Cosby.

By Thursday morning, after almost 30 hours of discussions spanning three days, the jurors told O'Neill they were at a stalemate. Constand said she took them with trepidation because she trusted him as the mentor and friend he was. Cosby denied the allegations, which amounted to three felony indecent sexual assault charges.

Bill Cosby's trial on sexual assault charges has ended without a verdict after jurors failed to break a deadlock.

Looking at Cosby, who thankfully did not teach me how to smile or how to love, I saw not good old Cliff Huxtable from "The Cosby Show", but a man accused by dozens of women across the decades.

While Simpson was acquitted in the 1995 criminal case, a jury in the civil case ordered him to pay $25 million in punitive damages to the families of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald L. Goldman, who were together when they were killed.

From defense attorney Brian McMonagle: "There were no winners here but like the song goes you don't always get what you want but if you try sometimes. you get what you need". He ordered them to keep trying but declared a mistrial June 17, the sixth day of their deliberations.

Jurors have already discussed the case for more than 50 hours since Monday, leading to Cosby's lawyer to push for a mistrial.
