Burling, Kiwis beat Oracle third time in America's Cup

How technology helped America's Cup hit mainstream

New Zealand continued to excel in light-wind sailing on the second day of racing as helmsman Peter Burling, 26, capitalised on a small mistake by the USA team and extended his lead throughout Sunday.

Team USA skipper Jimmy Spithill doesn't believe the cyclors are the key to Team NZ's early advantage in the America's Cup final.

Two races are scheduled on both days this weekend, beginning at 14:12 local time (1:12pm ET).

Still, this isn't the start the powerhouse Oracle squad expected.

A win by 49 seconds in race three was bettered by a winning margin of 1min 12sec in race four as the the boat helmed by Peter Burling charged to within four wins of lifting the Auld Mug.

Although they won twice, by 30 seconds and 1 minute, 28 seconds, the Kiwis lead just 1-0.

Racing resumes Saturday and Sunday.

Poll shows most doubt Trump's respect for institutions
The poll surveyed 1,068 Americans from June 8 to 11, and respondents were interviewed either by phone or online. Twenty-eight percent of the GOP thought Trump was not keeping his promises about fighting corruption in D.C.

The final is a repeat of the last time the trophy was contested in 2013, when Team USA came from 8-1 down to win 9-8.

'I think we're going to see one of the best sporting events of the year here over the next two weekends, ' said Spithill.

"By that stage, we had wasted a lot of time, so Pete chose to tack over and from there, we were in a compromised position, but we managed to get some dirty air on them and they couldn't accelerate to leeward of us".

"Clearly we didn't sail our best today, but we still had opportunities and that is what we will take away with us".

Oracle does have history on its side.

This is a rematch of the epic 2013 America's Cup, when Team New Zealand, then skippered by Dean Barker, reached match point at 8-1 before Oracle Team USA won eight straight races to retain the oldest trophy in global sports.

Burling has barely engaged in the start box, keeping out of trouble and relying on boat speed to hand them an early advantage on the first two legs. Coutts successfully defended the America's Cup in 2000 before jumping to Swiss startup syndicate Alinghi of Switzerland and sweeping his former team in 2003.

Emirates Team New Zealand faces Oracle Team USA in the America's Cup sailing m. Although it was sometimes hard for him to be coming from behind, he and his team now have a clearer vision of what it takes to perform in the America's Cup.

As both boats headed towards the turn the gap was down to just over three seconds, and it looked like the United States team might record their first win of the America's Cup Match, presented by Louis Vuitton, but it was not to be. "The team's hungry. They're a very, very competitive group".

It wasn't the cleanest start to sailing's biggest regatta, leaving more questions than answers as both teams headed back to their bases to pore over data and figure out where they need to sharpen up.

If the America's Cup match race which began on Bermuda's Great Sound yesterday was simply another battle between defender and challenger, it would be compelling. "Jimmy (Spithill) and ORACLE TEAM USA sailed really well to put us under a lot of pressure, but we managed to keep our composure and sail really well. And we're under no illusions the other guys are not going to give us a break".

So far, the Kiwis and their cycling grinding system have proved too fast for Oracle in light, shifty wind.

The Kiwi's control system, which is manned by skipper Glenn Ashby, means that they can also be fast and accurate going into manoeuvres and coming out. Olympic rowing champion Joe Sullivan replaced him for Race 4.

"We need to go back and use those days wisely".

Comeback Cavs end Warriors perfect postseason in Game 4
Klay Thompson added 30 points and Stephen Curry 26 for this California Dream Team now one win from its second title in three years.

"I think it just shows that you guys will fall for anything", Spithill chuckled. But we know that.
