Reports: Sheriff Clarke no longer taking job with Homeland Security

Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke has reportedly withdrawn from consideration for the role of deputy secretary at the Department of Homeland Security, according to a new report.

Clarke's job offer at the DHS was never publicly announced by the Trump administration, but Clarke had announced on a Wisconsin radio station in May that he accepted the post. According to the Post, Clarke's appointment was subject to delays, which contributed to him backing out of the position.

Clarke adviser Craig Peterson said the sheriff believes he is of better use to President Trump "in a more aggressive role".

Though Clarke said he was joining DHS last month, no formal position had been offered - and he was still serving as Milwaukee sheriff on Friday, The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports.
