"It seems to me to be another in a series of attempts by this government to deny the obvious, which is that they are going to be defeated on the throne speech on Thursday, and they are desperately trying to find a way to cling to power, or to have an election which they profess not to want", Farnworth said.

De Jong said the finance reform law is not a delay tactic because the Liberals still expect a confidence vote on Thursday that leads to the defeat of the government.

The first day of debate in the B.C. legislature under a hung parliament produced the unusual spectacle of an NDP government-in-waiting and their Green allies voting down policies they favour.

The Liberal government introduces two bills while the NDP introduces a non-confidence motion in the B.C. Legislature Monday.

The BC Liberal government is poised to introduce legislation this week on campaign finance reform, a step toward shedding British Columbia's "wild west" reputation for no-holds-barred political fundraising that would finally bring it in line with other jurisdictions.

AP analysis shows more unopposed Missouri races, GOP edge
Roughly 20 percent of seats up for election had just one major party candidate - seven for Republicans and six for Democrats. And that lack of competition in the fall pushes policy further off center, GiaQuinta argues, no matter which party benefits.

"The challenge with the NDP promises is that they're very vague", Redies told Peace Arch News.

For the NDP, it meant voting against legislation to ban union and corporate donations - legislation the party introduced six times while in opposition - without a hint of debate.

Peace River North MLA Dan Davies was unimpressed that Green Party leader Andrew Weaver reneged on his word to support the finance bill.

Every single member of the House has the chance to speak about the Throne Speech for 30 minutes. "The confidence vote will take place on Thursday".

But NDP Leader John Horgan said the letter represents a "final desperate attempt to throw British Columbians into another election".

Kyle Larson Wins pole for Toyota Savemart 350 at Sonoma Raceway
He's also the first Israeli driver to compete past year in both the Camping World Truck Series and Xfinity Series . His average finish at Sonoma is 14.5 and his driver rating is 107.8, which is best in the field by a wide margin.

Redies spoke to PAN the day after Premier Christy Clark's throne speech, which laid out the BC Liberals' vision for the province and included everything from creating child-care spaces to reforming the political-donation system.

"The Premier has been clear that she wants to test the confidence of the House, and that should be the first priority when the House reconvenes".

"I think members deserve to know, not from me but from a more authoritative source, what the rules are", he said.

"Let's be clear: If the concerns around the speaker can not be resolved, it will be because the B.C. Liberals have once again chosen to put their own political self-interest ahead of the interests of British Columbians", Weaver said. Christy Clark appears intent on not making this legislature work.

"I think people understand that politicians meet with people, but they also, I hope, understand that the fact that someone, anyone, has made a donation is in no way determinative of how a government will deal with a particular public policy in any way, shape or form", he said at the time. "If we look at the government's action this is just a last ditch effort to hold on to power".

Record 65.6 million people displaced worldwide
South Sudan has the fastest-growing displaced population in the world after peace efforts in the country fizzled out in July. Unaccompanied or separated children - mainly Afghans and Syrians - lodged some 75,000 applications in 70 countries in 2016.
