Wimbledon 2017: Roger Federer Advances to Third Round

Rumours about Djokovic having "family issues" have swirled around the game ever since he arrived at last year's tournament holding all four grand slam titles, fell in the third round and lost his tyrannical grip on tennis.

The 6-foot-10 Isner had quite a height advantage over the 5-9 Sela, but that didn't help on this day. That was the case throughout the whole match: me not going for it. The only time he had made it past the second round until now was a fourth-round showing in 2009. The likeable Argentinian, beset by injuries during his career, was knocked out in straight sets by Latvian Ernests Gulbis, who is now ranked as the world number 589.

Czech Pliskova, who won the Aegon International at Eastbourne, was beaten 6-3 5-7 2-6 and is the highest-ranked player to exit the women's draw.

Djokovic was asked about those comments several times at Wimbledon on Thursday after reaching the third round. "Well, as long as that flare of passion and love for the game is there, I will just keep going".

The Las Vegas born Agassi is married to seven-times Wimbledon champion Steffi Graf. Former world no.1 Mats Wilander, as mystified as anyone in tennis with Djokovic's distracted run of the last 12 months, said it was too early to say if the second-seed, whose ranking dipped to an eight year low of No.4, was back or not.

Germany offers to monitor Qatar's finances amid Gulf dispute
The Saudi-led group announced no new sanctions but indicated that Qatar could be expelled from the Gulf Cooperation Council. The foreign affairs think tank called for a public inquiry into the role of Saudi Arabia and other Gulf nations.

In victory, Djokovic completed his first full match of the Championships, after his first-round opponent Martin Klizan retired after 40 minutes.

Novak Djokovic responded amiably on Thursday to John McEnroe's lazy comments likening Djokovic to Tiger Woods during a recent BBC broadcast, saying, "I really don't take it in a negative way". He played superbly, not hitting one unforced error for the first hour of the match. For instance, he felt fine before his first-round contest.

A first-round loser at Wimbledon earns 35,000 pounds (about $45,000).

Woods infamously came into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons when his off-field transgressions led to his split from his wife.

Tomic also said he "just couldn't find any motivation" to compete and acknowledged that when he called for a medical timeout, he was trying to "break a bit of momentum".

Daniil Medvedev of Russian Federation, who threw a handful coins in the direction of the chair umpire after a second-round loss on Wednesday, was given three fines totaling $14,500.

Thirty-five-year-old David Ferrer is a potential quarter-final opponent for Djokovic, after the Spaniard was handed a place in the third round when Belgium's Steve Darcis became the eighth withdrawal from the men's event. The Belgian took a medical timeout after 18 minutes of play and was unable to continue. The Serbian took a little over an hour-and-a-half to dump the Czech out of the All-England Club, and he will hope to avoid a repeat of previous year, when Sam Querrey knocked him out at the same stage.

World number #3 Stan Wawrinka is one possibility, and he was recently runner-up to Nadal at the French Open.

"If you walk out on the Centre Court, there is a responsibility".

Try as they might, the reporters grilling Novak Djokovic couldn't get the three-time Wimbledon champion to criticize John McEnroe for comparing him to Tiger Woods. The top-ranked Kerber will face Kirsten Flipkens on No. 1 Court.

Chile feels the fatigue from its all-out play in Confed Cup
Pizzi says the south Americans can hold their own against Fernando Santos-coached Portugal . Germany and Mexico will meet in the second semi-final on Thursday.
