As soon as the release of Whitehead was official, his agent, David Rich, spoke out to ESPN's Adam Schefter, adding that Whitehead wasn't even in Virginia at the time of the incident and was on his way to Dallas.

Could this all be a case of mistaken identity?

When asked if firing Whitehead was a possibility, Garrett said - "Oh, absolutely". "I never once had an altercation with the cops", Whitehead emphasized in an exclusive interview with Cowboys HQ.

A Cowboys spokesman said the team has no comment on the matter. He was also involved in a auto accident that Garrett learned about through media reports previous year.

"We think it's important early on in training camp, to not give anyone a spot and make sure that the guys earn the spot by what they do from this moment going forward", said head coach Jason Garrett prior to the teams' first practice.

When he didn't show up to court on the summons, a warrant was issued for his arrest on the charge of failure to appear.
