Trump defends national security adviser HR McMaster amid calls for his firing

Reports suggest that Mc Master wants to axe anyone involved with a controversial memo claiming that the “deep state” is engaged in a Maoist-style insurgency against the Trump administration

His departure was the latest in a string of exits from the NSC staff under McMaster, who has reportedly sough to purge appointees of Trump's former national security adviser Michael Flynn.

"There is a split in the White House between the Bannon camp of ideologues and the McMaster-Mattis-Tillerson camp of more centrist intellectuals", Pete Mansoor, a retired Army colonel who worked closely with McMaster, told Politico.

Mr Trump had recently pondered a different role for General McMaster.

Gen. H.R. McMaster listens as U.S. President Donald Trump makes the announcement at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida. Trump wants to get us out of Afghanistan - McMaster wants to go in.

Authorities search for mom who disappeared in Grand Canyon National Park
The National Park Service said Beadle is an "experienced backpacker and hiker" who last hiked the Grand Canyon in 2002. Park officials say Beadle was hiking with two children - ages 10 and 11 - who were found safe.

Some of the most prominent survivors from the Flynn era include: Kevin Harrington, the deputy assistant to the president with close ties to Silicon Valley billionaire Peter Thiel; Josh Steinman, special assistant to the president for cyber; Brad Hansell, a mainstream Republican who serves as senior director for transnational threats, and Gorka, a Hungarian-American with an interest in counterterrorism who often defends the president on television. McMaster accompanied Trump to Israel last May, during which he had a three-hour conversation with Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman in Jerusalem.

Though Harvey has a reputation as a belligerent Iran hawk, his and McMaster's views on the the Islamic Republic deal did not result in his dismissal, aides said.

The Times quoted a senior White House official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, as saying Trump has "total confidence" in McMaster. Rice has been accused by the president, who has cited no evidence, of involvement in attempts to unmask Trump officials wiretapped by USA intelligence agencies during last year's election.

McMaster moved to replace the Jewish official when the concerns were raised in March, but Cohen-Watnick appealed to Trump's top advisers, Steve Bannon and Jared Kushner, who got Trump to intervene to save his job.

Trump Weighed in on Son's Statement 'as Any Father Would'
Nor was he alone - Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner and former campaign manager Paul Manafort were also present. The initial statement later appeared to be misleading at best as more information about the meeting came out.

The Times noted that Frank Gaffney Jr., president of the Center for Security Policy, had called McMaster "insubordinate to his commander in chief" in areas such as Islamic terrorism. "He's one of the few people who can articulate Trump's vision effectively", an official told the website.

The attacks directed at McMaster came from conservative news sites and grew on social media.

Sources say the Trump staffers fired by McMaster had repeatedly crossed their boss on issues such as U.S involvement in Syria and Afghanistan, President Obama's Iran deal, the Paris Climate Accord and the threat of radical Islam.

Apparently, new White House chief of staff John Kelly is unable to stop the war, or is siding with McMaster against Bannon.
